Why go anywhere else?
When it comes to their own format, Adobe has it down. Although it's pricey, they have made the best all around PDF program on the market. It does everything that I could ever want it to be able to do, allowing me to make professional PDF files and post them on the web. It works great, and reliably.

Big, Expensve, and very good
Ok, so I believe that Adobe will always make the best .pdf program, because they invented the medium. Acrobat show cases this; it’s a beautiful program, and works well. The problem: it’s gigantic and expensive. If you have a good size hard drive (which are becoming more and more common) and don’t mind spending the money, AAP is the best.

Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional
Great software, nearly 5 stars, but slightly flawed! I have used Adobe Acrobat for many years and version 8 is the best version yet. The support for images and graphics has been greatly improved, and the sheer number of import filters make this an impressive and essential piece of software. My main problem with it, and the reason I cannot give it five stars, is the fact it is the most enormous resource hog on my system! If you try to load a PDF document from within internet explorer, it goes through the whole process of opening the full Acrobat software. This is a waste of time and completely unnecessary when all you want to do is view the document. It loads so many filters, all good, but it would be nice to have a choice, so as to only load filters when we need them. Yes, its a great piece of software, but the loading times and add-ons for web browsers need to be greatly improved before this can be a five star product.

Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional
If you just want to look at PDF documents, Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional is not for you. But if you are constantly frustrated with your inability to modify or create PDFs, this piece of software is highly recommended. While this is by no means the only option for converting a Word file to PDF, this software makes it simple - even integrating a Toolbar into Word so you don't have to open Acrobat to do the task. However, once documents are already in PDF, you still will be limited in what you can edit. Changing a word here and there is no problem, but beyond that things get dicey. Keep in mind, though, that this is because of the inherent nature of PDF files rather than a problem with the program.
This is definitely another quality product from Adobe, but best purchased in a bundle with some of their other, more powerful software.

Being a keen online reader, my eyes are always glued to any release of a good document reader; I have discovered that this new version of Adobe has attracted my attention mainly because of the following: - It has additional features such as a startup to assist beginners in choosing what they want to do with their documents such as to create a pdf, combine files, export, start a meeting, secure their documents, sign, forums, or to review a component. These were not available in previous versions. - One could even fill up a form digitally rather than having to go through the hassle of transferring them elsewhere, filling them up and scanning it back to the computer to be submitted. - One more thing that impresses me is the ability to add direct comments to a piece of document. This comes in handy when reviewing a technical or an academic document. - The safety features are also attractive with digital signatures and additional security add-ones.
However, my main dissatisfaction is the inability to integrate with Microsoft Office 2007 yet. This might be a good suggestion for improvement for this software in the near future. Otherwise, thumbs up!

The free Acrobat Reader only allows you to read or comment on a pdf already created. Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro gives you the ability to take the pdfs you create from any program, add interactivity, control how it is viewed, secure it so others can't alter it ... and even create forms with active input fields.
My favorite use for Acrobat Pro is for creating e-newsletters. Bookmarking articles allows readers to leap directly to the topics that interest them. If I reference a web address in the article I can turn it into a link so that readers are taken directly to the site mentioned (no typing of URLs!) Additionally, continued articles can link directly to the remainder of the article on whatever page it falls. Adding video and audio clip links into your pdf is also a possibility. Acrobat Pro allows for a more interactive pdf experience and yet the file is often still small enough to e-mail to your intended recipient. You also don't have to worry if they have the program you created the original pdf in. They just need the free Acrobat Reader!
