AVG Antivirus - Things We Like
AVG is one of the top packages at keeping computers safe from malware and viruses, it has a large detection database with a high accuracy of detection. It has a full range of tools for detecting many kinds of malware and removing them; as well as cloud antivirus and network security. Online protections include scanning all incoming files and blacklisting dangerous websites to protect you. An impressive feature of AVG compared to other packages on the market is the speed with which it scans, getting through large numbers of files far more quickly. This is an important feature when many users will have potentially millions of files on their computers. Technical support from the company is very good with expert guidance available that is likely to have seen any problems you may have before; AVG Antivirus review all of their previous user problems to help solve yours. To ensure you can game and watch movies smoothly AVG can detect these activities and reduce its system footprint to make sure they run smoothly.
AVG Antivirus - Things We Didn't Like
The updates to the database are generally not as fast as those of other antivirus companies when new threats are detected. This means your computer will sometimes be vulnerable to new threats before the AVG Antivirus download of updates. The active scanning features aimed at protecting you while you browse the internet can eat up vast amounts of system resources. They use up a large proportion of the available CPU time causing other activities to be slowed down and your CPU to heat up, turning on the fan and making your system noisy even just for browsing the internet. AVG can give false positives, especially via the heuristic detection methods, leading to innocent files being flagged as dangerous.

AVG Antivirus = efficient threat removal
Advantages
Great interface, top priority scan optimization. Features the Identity Theft Recovery Unit, sounds like CSI though.
Disavantages
Not nearly as fast as the offerings from Norton and Avast.

Great free antivirus, happily use it on any system and feel secure.
Advantages
Light-weight, and doesn't bog down the system too much. Free!
Disavantages
Annoys you a bit about upgrading.
