Editor's Review
Now in its 9th incarnation, Babylon’s translation software provides comprehensive, real time translation options and dictionary support for over 30 languages, straight from your desktop. Babylon quickly and accurately translates whole documents and web pages. Babylon can also proofread documents for spelling and coherence. In addition, Babylon can now recognize languages without user input – further streamlining the translation process.
Babylon has kept the “globe” feature from their Babylon 8 program, which enables Babylon to run in the background during normal computer use. With a simple click, one can access translation features and dictionary definitions without having to open up a whole new program.
Babylon provides a wide range of plug-ins and expansion options for their translation software. A computerized reader can prononce words out aloud to help with language comprehension. In order to read languages other than English, however, extra software needs to be installed.
The program is not without its shortcomings, however. Babylon 9 works perfectly fine on web pages where it can access the underlying data of the page – the basic code. If Babylon can’t access this data, then it relies on optical character recognition (OCR). Unfortunately Babylon 9’s OCR leaves much to be desired and more often than not and as a result, the software does not currently work in the Google Chrome web browser.
Babylon: What We Liked
The new proofreading feature can spell check and offer solutions for over 75 languages – regardless of the application in which it is used
Babylon not only translates languages, but can also convert currency, measurements and time zones
Babylon 9: What We Didn't Like
Babylon 9 is not compatible with the Google Chrome web browser
When running in the background, Babylon can slow down computer systems
Babylon Support
Babylon offer free support through their online Support Center. Customers can browse the knowledgebase and FAQ pages, or get specific help through Babylon’s detailed “Contact Support” form. All manuals and guides to Babylon software can also be downloaded from the Support Center.

Lifesaver!
Advantages
thank goodness this program understands context! So many translation programs give you the wrong spelling or straight out the wrong word. I haven't had prob with this one, really good.
Disavantages
I wish it would read out more languages than just English. I know I can download more though so its okay

Babylon does it quickly and accurately
Advantages
more accurate than any of the free ones you see around. I have to write reports in French and the proofreading feature really helps find the little errors that are easy to make as a non-native speaker.
Disavantages
It doesnt work in google chrome which is a pain. but in Firefox it has its own toolbar and everything so its not that bad

Babylon one of the top translation products available
Advantages
possibly a better translation tool than other freeware like google translate, but definitely better for voice translation and the only one of its type. has the benefit of a large customer service unit
Disavantages
pretty aggressively promote the free version with a view to upgrading you, as most like to do. not bad value compared to its competitors
