Data
Street Atlas USA 2008 DVD contains the DeLorme-produced and managed United States and Canadian street-level network. DeLorme highways and major roads for Mexico also includeed. The four million U.S. places of interest are updated annually based on phone book information and DeLorme's own research into exit services. Canadian POIs are also included, many with phone numbers.

Core Functions

Map Controls
The maps can be controlled using a variety of methods, including the traditional push-button zooming, which drills in/out while keeping the map exactly centered. Also, holding down the left mouse button enables you to drag and zoom, left-to-right, across the map, and moving the mouse in the same manner but in the opposite direction zooms out.

Find DeLorme employs several powerful search capabilities within the software. The first is a simple box called QuickSearch where you type common requests including towns, cities, lat/lons, ZIP codes, street addresses, colleges, and many more to receive the quickest possible matches. The places-of-interest search offers more advanced parameters and the advanced search is used when locating exact matches requires additional customer input.

Draw
Add MapNotes; draw your own circles, polygons, and squares; measure the area of your draw objects - even draw in your own roads and route on them - these are amazingly powerful draw tools for the money.

Info
Right-click on the map to learn more about what's underneath your cursor. Lat/Lon, names of streets and bodies of water - even local radio station information - can be viewed in this manner. Moreover, the bottom toolbar of the software displays a continuously updated readout of what's underneath your cursor.

Voice
voice for issuing routing and GPS commands while tracking. Ask common questions such as "How far to my next turn?" and the software answers. Microphone recommended for optimal usage. The software also reads upcoming turn information, including the time to turn, time to finish, and name of the street to turn onto. New voice settings allow you to select how far in advance of your turn you'd like to be prompted. Voice can also be turned off if you prefer.

Netlink and Aerial Imagery
NetLink is your online link to DeLorme for free aerial imagery now included with the Street Atlas USA 2008 versions. Select your areas of interest and download only those grids to the software. Toggle the imagery on and off in a single-screen view. Add notes and draw objects to the imagery to customize lifelike views from space.

Mobile Device Mapping
Pocket PC, Windows Mobile 5.0, and Palm OS Compatible

Included at no extra charge is the DeLorme Handheld software, which now includes support for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. Access the maps you want from the desktop software and hot-sync to your PDA. Add a DeLorme Bluetooth GPS for use with Bluetooth PDAs and navigate wire-free. The DeLorme handheld functionality provides address-to-address routing, spoken directions, mobile map colors to reduce in-vehicle glare, and four million places of interest. Finding what you need is easy using the powerful search capabilities. Now you have powerful desktop mapping software and PDA software all conveniently provided in one Street Atlas USA 2008 package.

Maps on iPods
Using a tool similar to how MapShare works, now you can select the maps you want from the desktop software and send them to your photo-capable iPod. These map images are static (e.g., cannot be manipulated once on the iPod) and come across in the order you select them, same as with photos. Once on your device, you can access the ones you need, when you need them. Due to the small screen size of iPods, we recommend these maps for urban walking situations where you can discretely reference the maps you need. (Not GPS compatible.)

Street Atlas USA 2008
Great for home and work This was the best thing I have seen. My husband is a truck driver, and is forever calling with "get me directions". I have had more problems with different products that say the directions are accurate only to find they are not. We had to try this one. It works. Not only does it work, 98% of the time it takes my husband to the doorstep of where he has to go. He's happy, I'm happy. Now we have others we know getting Street Atlas to help eliminate the headaches that arise. Great product!

It is better than having MapQuest on your PC or Mobile Device I find that Street Atlas is a handy program for finding my way around town, or trying to find a restaurant in my neighborhood. The nice thing about this software is that not only do I get directions to where I want to go locally; it is very good for planning those long excursions to other cities, or even states. I find all of the maps easy to read and follow. With this software I do not fear losing my way at all. The GPS navigation is a nice touch and is really handy on a handheld device. I feel that I do not need to buy one of those expensive GPS navigation devices for my car. Quite simply this software has some really useful features. I give Street Atlas USA a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I Love This! My best friend and her husband swear by the Street Atlas program, and since she went from getting constantly lost, to knowing where she was going, I knew I had to give this a shot. I used the system to plan a 6 hour road trip, and also kept my original directions I printed from a website. The website added an additional 2 hours to my trip that Street Atlas shaved off! Anytime I can save hours off my trip is a plus in my book. My only complaint is that its hard to print out the maps, but since I usually stick with a real atlas, and printed directions, it didn't phase me too much. 4 stars out of 5.

A Simple Sensation Street Atlas USA 2008 is GPS Mapping software and is pretty simple to use and for a cheap price($40). I like that it comes with a desktop interface and maps can be downloaded onto a Pocket PC or iPod. The routing device is about average and I found the graphics not that enticing but for a $40 price, complaining about the features which get the job done shouldn't be necessary.

My husband will never get lost again. I give this one 4.5 out of 5 stars. This program couldn't be easier to use. And for fewer than 40.00 I thought it was well worth the price and peace of mind. It is great for people who don't have GPS as part of the standard equipment on their vehicles, because it gave us real time directions.

I would highly recommend this software to anyone who travels.

For those that like to travel, that don't have OnStar, the Street Atlas 2008 is a great find. The voice command was unexpectedly pleasant, BUT it fell short of my personal expectations. However, I'm just particular about the results of the programs I use. For anybody else, I would definitely recommend this program if you like to travel, or if you'd like to take a trip, or even if you're just not good with directions. It's better than dragging around that big fold-up map! 4 stars.

 I really love my Street Atlas USA 2008. I would say that it is the most powerful traveling tools that I ever had. It really matches to me, since I really love to travel. This software is really one of a kind. Street Atlas USA 2008 is fully featured. It is more powerful than any online mapping tools. And another good thing about it is that you can use any of your latest gadgets for this very comprehensive tool for traveling like Pocket PCs, Windows Mobile 5.0 and later, iPods, and Palm OS. It has powerful travel planning tools, MapShare and many new data types.

You will get the most updated comprehensive street and POI updates for USA and Canada and even highways for Mexico. Because of my Street Atlas USA 2008 I can now do my router planning, powerful searching for locations, vacation planning, business trip planning, house-hunting trips, college visits, motor coach and truck travel and many more powerful things right in front my desktop. More great stuff about this software is that I can do update mapping, have voice commands and spoken directions, explore America's back roads without getting lost, create address-to-address routes among my business appointments, plan for emergency evacuations, find last-minute lodging and food, and may more while on the road.
