IrfanView is one of the most popular publishers of an image viewing and editing program around. Unlike some free programs, it also has a number of specialized features that users can take advantage of, include file conversion options.

Whether a professional or novice user, there are times when you may want to change your images from one type of file to another. Some of the file types that IrfanView supports are JPG, IMG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, PSD, EPF, PGN, MP3, AVI, MOV, RAW and many more.

To make images more accessible, or reduce file size, it is sometimes necessary to change the file type. IrfanView allows users to do this for multiple images, using the following method.

Open IrfanView
Go to File > Batch Conversion
Select the folder and/or files that you want to convert
Choose the file type that you would like to use
Click "Start" to begin the process

This process is ideal for files that have been loaded from a device and need to be converted to a more compatible format. For single image conversion the process is similar to that of many other programs.
