To make images more accessible, or reduce file size, it is sometimes necessary to change the file type. IrfanView allows users to do this for multiple images, using the following method.
- Open IrfanView
- Go to File > Batch Conversion
- Select the folder and/or files that you want to convert
- Choose the file type that you would like to use
- Click "Start" to begin the process
This process is ideal for files that have been loaded from a device and need to be converted to a more compatible format. There are also a number of advanced features that can be used, which are highlighted in tutorials like this one from Bleeping Computer and can be enhanced with the IrfanView Plugins.
For single image conversion the process is similar to that of many other programs. Users can simply open the file in IrfanView, click on "Save" or "Save As" and choose the location and filetype they would like to use. When it comes to file conversion for images, IrfanView has effective and simple processes for any type of user.
