Designed to make freelance billing and taxation simple, Macware MacFreelance is an accounting application for online professionals, consultants, and service workers. With support for client invoicing, hourly billing and work monitoring, and even tax calculators and graphing tools, MacFreelance is one of the best accounting options available for Mac users.

With built-in client tracking tools, MacFreelance is very useful for monitoring your client work commitments, hours worked, and amounts to be billed. Users can input their major clients to MacFreelance's database, and update and compile their billing information, time worked, and rates throughout their day.

Rather than requiring users to employ an external timer, MacFreelance includes a built-in timer to monitor hours and hourly billing, making it easy to calculate hourly rates and per-project costs. Invoices can easily be generated from hours-worked or per-project rates, making it simple to create invoices and payment requests that combine different projects, contracts, and tasks.

While billed as an accounting application, MacFreelance is really an all-encompassing freelancing suite. Four different types of taxation can be tracked, allowing users to easily monitor exactly how much tax they're paying on a per-project and total basis, and even allow for write-offs and project-related expenses.

Integration with standard Mac OS X applications can save users a lot of time. Users can easily connect with iCal to enter dates and scheduling events, add and manage clients using Address Book, and even use Spotlight to search through application data.

While MacFreelance offers a wide range of useful features, it's ultimately let down by a rather bizarre interface and poor usability. A distinct lack of keyboard shortcuts makes it difficult to boost speed and productivity, and built-in support is quite limited. Furthermore, a number of users report problems with saving files and application information.

The unintuitive user interface is difficult to navigate, quite slow to use, and strangely devoid of keyboard and trackpad shortcuts.
