Inside the new Outpost 7.5, you’ll find a host of new features and improvements, all designed to make your Internet surfing as safe as possible without impacting system speed.
It is Outpost 7.5 that has been designed to deliver lightning-fast performance for everyday web surfing and make it easier than ever for you to know when you might be entering dangerous territory.
NEW! SmartDecision technology
Whenever an Outpost-protected PC encounters an unknown (unverified) application, Outpost will ask you to determine how to proceed. It’s sometimes hard to know what the right choice is, so we’ve introduced SmartDecision as a replacement for the old SmartAdvisor to help make this process easier.
Key novelty in 7.5 product line, SmartDecision steps in to perform non-signature detection by rating every executable file against a number of criteria and determining its authenticity or potential to cause damage. This technology employs multi-level risk measurements and enables Outpost to provide you with visual guidance as to the best way to proceed (allow or block) along with a corresponding window color – red, yellow or green.
An effective non-signature detection algorithm, SmartDecision is designed to reduce your risk of making the wrong choice without eliminating the flexibility enjoyed by power users. Outpost’s 7.5 SmartDecision technology makes queries more transparent and decision-making more reassuring.
Improved! 3x faster web page filtering
In the ongoing struggle to balance ease-of-use with optimal performance, Agnitum engineers have reworked the Firewall and Web Control modules and have achieved lesser PC resource load compared to the previous versions (4.0, 6.x and 7.0). This means that users of the newest Outpost Security Suite or Outpost Firewall almost won't feel any slowdowns while opening web pages. Additionally spyware-site filtering engine is now up to 100 times faster.
Improved! Faster on-access and on-demand scanning
Outpost 7.5 Pro delivers improved performance using fewer PC resources. Internal tests have shown that on-access scanning is twice faster and on-demand scanning is 2.5 times faster than the previous version.
Improved! Updated antimalware engine – version 5.3
The updated antimalware engine delivers even greater detection accuracy by grouping similar virus implementations under a single signature (signature database version 14); thus, even increase in the number of signatures compared to version 7.1 contributes to reduced performance impact.
This technology is able to combat certain special, hard-to-detect malware with a "fluctuating" signature. The new Controllable Emulator analyzes every executable and compressed file in emulation mode, which imitates in a controlled environment the memory and OS status of the PC as far as possible. This results in improved scanning speeds and lower resource consumption, up to 20% for certain file types (executable files, scripts, and compressed executable in ZIP/ARJ archives).
Improved! SmartScan 4 / XAS technology Speed-Up
SmartScan technology, introduced back in version 6.5 in the summer of 2008, has helped to speed up scans by 3-5 times (compared to SmartScan 3) by storing statistics and avoiding repeat scanning of previously verified and unchanged files. The latest 4th iteration of SmartScan, code-named eXtended AttributeS (XAS), enables even faster caching of file and folder check information without impacting performance, further enhancing the performance improvements built into the new antimalware engine.
Improved! Antimalware / eXtended Heuristic Analyzer
HAX (eXtended Heuristic Analyzer) is now the integral part of SmartDecision technology. eXtended Heuristic Analyzer (HAX) incorporates new functionality that enables it to take advantage of the new SmartDecision technology by taking charge of more critical locations and auto-started objects in the system. HAX has also increased by a factor of more than ten the number of indicators and parameters for suspicious programs, which in turn increases the analyzer’s coverage and detection rates.
NEW! PDF filtering
PDF files have become a popular target for malware creators. Outpost's PDF scanning module is now able to check non-standard and damaged files more effectively, and the number of false positives occurring during PDF email attachment scanning has been significantly reduced.
NEW! Proactive Protection / Clipboard and screen content protection
Aside from keyloggers and keyboard spyware, both of which are detected by Outpost's antimalware and proactive protection technologies, new type of malicious software has recently appeared which grabs personal data (passwords, credit card numbers, etc.) from the clipboard (so called *clipboard-loggers*) or sends randomly-taken screenshots (*screen-loggers*) to hackers.
Clipboard content protection functionality is now included in the anti-leak module, to prevent data leaks and inadvertent information disclosure during copy operations. You don’t have to worry about cutting and pasting personally-identifiable information while you’re online, or entering confidential information into an on-screen form.
NEW! Anti-Malware / USB virus protection
In order to combat malware which spreads via USB storage devices by using Windows auto-run vulnerability, Outpost 7.5 now includes specific USB virus protection that may operate in a few scenarios.
Advanced users can opt to:
- Disable the launch of autorun.inf file without blocking the programs
- Completely block the USB device
- Block ALL executable files and scripts on the USB device / just executables and scripts without by the publisher's digital signature.
Moreover, the auto-run section of storage devices is checked for malware before all other data to immediately pinpoint suspicious activity and save resources.
NEW! More Actions/Fewer Actions switch
For more granular handling of system events, Outpost 7.5 hides a generally less demanded option to take one-time actions in the event of a security incident – under an extended menu. Thus the More actions/Fewer actions option hides or shows extra buttons: Allow Once and Block Once. These single actions lead to permission or prohibition for a certain connection.
Improved! More secure Auto-Learn function
Outpost 7.5 includes a revamped auto-learning mode, erstwhile optimally used with a clean PC, currently – integrated with for SmartDecision technology and, therefore, providing extended security.
With the new learning mode every launched application is checked for validity in accordance with SmartDecision’s predefined safety criteria. This makes Outpost 7.5 an even better player on the field of previously contaminated systems.
Improved! Full firewall compatibility with mobile broadband devices
Outpost 7.5 provides enhanced filtering for the traffic generated by mobile broadband devices (such as 3G modems) to further safeguard laptops and other portable devices from threats carried by unverified connections.
Improved! Security for 64-bit platforms
Outpost 7.5 includes code specifically designed to support 64-bit platforms, providing full protection and compatibility with 64-bit hardware and OS's, including Windows 7.
