TaxBlogger.org: We Check Them Out

It seems like every subject under the sun has a blog out there for it. Taxes are no different - but if you're looking for some great information from a "loose confederation of bloggers, writers, and other tax freaks," there's a suite of blogs that have banded together under a single seal: Certified Tax Blogger.

TaxBlogger.org basically works as a kind of mix between the newspaper and a directory. By hitting their home page, you can quickly see what some of the most prominent Certified Tax Bloggers have posted recently. Just a quick scroll through the home page is enough to have the mind dizzy with tax-geek glee.

There are some real quality bloggers being offered up through TaxBlogger.org, too. Just in order to wear the big green seal, tax bloggers have to run a blog that has (obviously) taxes as the main topic; they have to post or publish to their blog at least once a week; and the blog has to have been in existence for more than three months. You're not going to run across a really great article only to be disappointed when you realize that the author hasn't updated their website in the last year. Even better? Those great articles you find aren't the "dry" tax stuff most of us dread reading. A prerequisite to wearing the Certified Tax Blogger seal is that the posts a writer makes have to have a sense of humor. Boring is definitely not the order of the day.

Checking out the website, it's easy to fall into the typical human trap of hoping to catch someone "messing up." Want to find out that the blogs listed aren't posting anymore? Not going to happen. Some of the topics being blogged about and shared through TaxBlogger.org actually raise some real questions, and point out social issues like, "How I live up to my values by resisting federal taxes."

In all, TaxBlogger.org is a truly innovative idea in a field that's inundated with boring, cut and dry information. The writers are dedicated to their subject and produce informative pieces that will never put you to sleep. If we've got to deal with taxes and knowledge is still power, this place is your ticket to power that pleases.
