TaxCut Online: Which Version Do I Choose?

H&R Block offers both a boxed software edition of its TaxCut program and an online edition. The primary difference between the store version and the online version is that electronic filing of your tax form is free for any level when you buy the online version, whereas you may have to pay extra to e-file depending on the version you purchase at a store. Otherwise, the features included in the online versions of TaxCut are essentially the same as the boxed version.

TaxCut Online Basic + efile

This version offers a low-priced guided tour through your federal tax information that is made easier by getting your information in interview form rather than having to fill out an endless variety of confusing and complicated forms. If you have a state income tax, you'll have to pay extra to upgrade.

TaxCut Online Premium + efile

You'll still have to pay extra for state income forms and filing, but this version includes all that comes with basic, plus many other necessary features, including a dedicated business expense advising section. If you have a home business and are worried about what you can deduct and what may get you audited, this is the place to find your answers. You also get the bonus of one free session with a real live tax advisor. If you know your tax return will require more than just a 1040 form and you don't suffer the burden of a state income tax, this is your best bet.

TaxCut Online Premium +State + efileThis version includes everything that comes with the above version, but it also includes free filing of your state income taxes. Since state income tax filing rules and regulations don't apply even across the country, you'll want to make sure your state is one that TaxCut Online Premium supports.

H&R Block Signature

With this product, you fill out all the forms and send them to an H&R Block tax advisor who will review them, suggest edits, and even do your filing for you. This alternative expands your one free session with an advisor into unlimited sessions for a year.

H&R Block Online Office
This version of TaxCut Online offers you the opportunity to enter the information yourself and then sit back and let a tax professional do the work of preparing your return. It comes with unlimited consultation privileges.
