5 updates and improvements in Intuit's Quickbooks 2011 tax software.

Every year we look forward to the updates from our big software publishers and this year Intuit have given us cause to take notice with their 2011 range of tax software. Interestingly it was due to launch on September 28 but they had technical issues and delayed the launch a week. As long as their software works we don't mind. There's a number of updates for fans and upgraders to Quickbooks 2011:

• Various price changes (mostly upwards unfortunately!). For 1 user versions, Quickbooks Pro is up $30, as is Pro Mac and Point of Sale is up $100. See the list of price changes below.
• To offset the prices, however, we have 20% discounts on all Quickbook accounting packages (excludes Quickbooks point of sale), so the price hike is actually a drop (for as long as the discount lasts). 
• Intuit have discontinued: Simple Start CD version; QB Online Basic (renamed to Simple Start Online); Getting started with POS; End User certification; Set up and Training; Cash Register Plus and Point of Sale Multi Store.
• Quickbooks Online now comes in an Essentials edition.
• Online Basic is now called Quickbooks Simple Start Online

A quick note on discounts. We watch out for discounts on quickbooks.com and other accounting software websites, the Twitterverse and emails to find discounts which we then promote. For example, earlier this year we found a way to get over $100 off Quickbooks by buying template forms worth $10.
