Efficiency, overall, is one of the big improvements we found in the Mac version of QuickBooks 2010 - setting up a new business profile in the program, for instance, now taking about two steps compared to the 20-100 steps required in previous versions.

Tying into Mac apps, the Apps Centre in QuickBooks 2010 has a solid range of applications that help track marketing campaigns and sales leads so that you keep in step with the competition and maximize profits.

Whilst Mac users have been understandably excited about these Mac-specific developments, the software has come under a degree of fire for its laboured install process, occasional data confusion, and the M.I.A. tech-support that would otherwise help fix such problems. Macs are renowned for their spatial organization and navigation. Processing, however, suffers as a result.

• A complicated install process.
• Some data accuracy issues when converting from Windows into the program (however, there are online instructions on how to rectify these).
• There have been some complaints that the jazzed up Mac interfaces are unprofessional.
