Real-time Production

Preset Layouts for Directing
iClone5 is different from other 3D tools designed for storytelling. Its production layout is logically designed with Stage, Set, Actor, Animation, Media and Export so that you may easily allocate resources required during story creation. This allows for anyone to be their own director and start animating without any hassles of creating content from scratch.

In-screen Editing
The gizmo adds targeted editing tools for altering the Rotation, Transformer Scale of any object. The X,Y and Z axis can be selected individually, or in combination, to control the alteration.

In-scene Editing: Multiple selection, transformation, delete, move, copy, link, attach and save to library.

Drag-n-Drop Creation
Drag and drop actors, props or textures directly into any scene within the 3D preview window. Select a file and drag it from the iClone library, or as an imported file from any external Windows folder. Textures can be dragged and turned into solid wall objects or even 2D backgrounds. Drop textures directly onto clothing while actors are still wearing them.

Play-to-Create Controls
The Director Mode is just like a videogame. You select your actor or prop, and use the directional keys or hotkeys to control it. The animation you create is then recorded as a motion clip for you to use as is, or for you to edit in later segments.

Animation Path & Transition
In the real world, most of things around us are moving along a smooth curve. By using this feature we can easily build a path for any object to follow without creating lots of transform keys. In iClone, you may set keys or add clips in different tracks. The interpolating in movements may be customized with different methods so that the transition speed between two adjacent keys or clips is more dynamic. This can imitate the physics characteristics of moving objects in the real world. 

Digital Actors

Character Base & Templates
Each new iClone release pushes real-time characters forward into a new level of realism and controllability. IClone5, includes 2 x G5 standard characters, 2 x G3 standard characters, 2 x G3 CloneCloth characters, 1 x cartoon character, 2 x non-standard characters and 3 x non-human characters (the additional cartoon character is available in the Gorf's Wonderland resource pack). All actors feature a higher level of detail and a lower polygon count for faster performances. The G5 human characters come with additional 16 outfits (Developer Collection Bonus) offered by Reallusion's talented developers found in the Reallusion Marketplace. Any registered member is eligible to download these to experience.

Character Types

1. iClone4 Standard Character
   The G3 characters Dylan & Jana come with the new head bone and Persona system that users can use to trigger body motions with facial expressions and voice animations.
2. iClone4 CloneCloth Character
   The CloneCloth characters provide dual layers of clothing mesh; for skin layer and cloth layer. Simply modify the textures with any image editor to create any design and style.
3. CloneBone Character
   CloneBone is a universal iClone bone system which you can use to create custom characters by simply attaching parts to the bones. This way, you can easily build a wide range of character designs such as a robot, or cartoon figures.
4. Non-human Character
   The non-human characters can be controlled with the motion editor. This horse will be included in the default library, while the lamp will only be available to users who purchase iClone.
5. Cartoon Character
   Reallusion brings Jimmy-Toon and Gorf into the the world of iClone. Cartoon characters can be given human motions, which give you unlimited opportunities in your story creations.

Easily fit facial wire frames to any facial image. Simply identify the corners of the eyes and the mouth with 4 quick references. Later, fine-tune additional fitting points in the Basic and Advanced fitting modes.

Facial & Body Deformation
Use awesome facial deformations to morph the same character into multiple face styles. Use powerful face shaping controls to fine-tune facial features such as eyes, brows, cheeks, chin, lips and nose. Choose from an extensive library of 3D actor themes such as fantasy characters, action heroes, professional office personnel and everyday people. Select the starting body shape and then morph - slim, strong, average, miniature, cartoon-like.

CloneCloth Custom Actor Clothing for Cut and Design
CloneCloth introduces powerfully simple custom clothing for iClone CloneCloth actors with the use of images and any image editor to shape and decorate custom designs.
Dual-layer CloneCloth actors feature outer garments that have the ability to reveal inner skin when the garments are cut to fit.

Smart Animation

MixMoves - Motion Graph System
The MixMoves (motion graph) system consists of hundreds of well-calculated, daily motions for top mocap quality. The system automatically generates natural transitions between previously selected motions for male or female actors. Its motion graph technology presents a general framework for human motion states to blend together, seamlessly. Storytellers simply need to select target motions under different states such as standing idle, sitting, kneeling or lying down. The system then automatically sequences motions and blends them together in a natural, believable manner.

Motion Capture with Depth Cam
iClone5 offers the most affordable and intuitive, motion capturing solution in the industry. Now you can simply use your body to control virtual actors, in real-time, with motion smoothing optimizations. Lightspeed your animations and create realistic-looking motions as now you can literally control actors with your body movements.

Motion Puppeteering - Body
You may use a mouse or any other handheld device to create an unlimited number of motion variations to reflect your character's personality. Users may select body parts and add puppet behaviors, while they control their animations during playback or real-time recording. You may also manually control the puppeteering speed and direction, or let the animation loop with slider alterations. Animators are also able to create frequent male and female motion alternatives with 55 different puppet profiles found in 4 categories.

Motion Puppeteering - Face
Use a mouse or handheld device to puppet character animation. Select characters or facial features and puppet their behavior as you playback to recorded audio in real-time. 10 default puppet profiles define instant personality performance for puppeteering including Wicked, Goofy, Youthful, Attractive and Grumpy; as well as six emotion styles included with advanced select and de-select layer editing capability that provides full control of the puppet features.

Motion Key Editing - Body
Licensed from Autodesk, the same core technology of Motion Builder for human motion control; iClone5 meets the highest standards of human bone structure and motion editing systems. Using Human IK as the core character engine allows your 3D characters to now have automatic floor contact, while the intuitive real-time IK motion control keeps a proper body balance.

Motion Key Editing - Face
Select individual or multiple facial features, and puppet their behaviors by dragging the mouse cursor around the editing area. iClone provides full control over puppet facial features, mouth openings, emotional expressions and more. Move your cursor to experience blinking eyes, wrinkling noses, dropping jaws and more.

Audio Lip-sync
Import a WAV file or record your own voice by using the built-in audio capture function. Enjoy a vast phoneme databank that automatically lip-syncs to your image. Advancements in Text-to-Speech offer better quality for all end-users, and additional solutions for text-driven voice performances.

Instant Performance with Personality & Emotion
A Persona is the characteristics given to the actor so that the actor can animate in a unique style. One Persona file may include several sets of movement behaviors. Use the Behavior Mode Switch (hotkey X/Z, next/previous mode) to trigger different animation sets such as walk mode, run mode, or even a custom defined fly mode. Animation defined in the Persona can be either triggered by hotkesy or the right-click menu.

Smart Props

Interactive Props with iScript

Smart iProps now adopt the new Lua (lightweight multi-paradigm programming) language for game-like prop interaction. Lua is described as a "multi-paradigm" language, which is commonly used in many game companies. With Lua, you may easily manipulate an object with the use of a control panel. Just like a video game, simply select the prop and character and place a command for their auto animation.

Physics Animation– Rigid Body
Rigid body dynamics enable you to simulate objects with a high degree of realism such as fall, collide and bounce. All these movements are controlled by physics properties such as mass, elasticity, friction, damping, impulse, collisions, constraints and others. You may even add rigid body physics to any prop or character in order to add another dimension of interactivity between subjects.

Physics Animation– Soft Body
Soft body dynamics focus on realistic physical simulations that deform whole objects and singular planes such as clothes. Animations are now incredibly life-like as objects can accurately represent their elastic properties like rubber, squashed balls or jelly puddings. You may even simulate cloth effects from a singular plane with different material stiffness such as silk, linen or any other materials that will be affected by air resistance.

Flex & Spring
Automatic, real-time flying surface simulations with FLEX technology. Preset FLEX Surface content library for common flexible objects allow you to further customize for different purposes. The other spring dynamics can help you create natural human movement such as swaying hair, shaking belly and female breast dynamics. You may also use this feature to create dog tails and insect antennae.

3D Dummy & Material TemplatesInstant 3D scene buildup via move, scale, rotate and stacking of basic 3D building blocks. 3D Blocks include walls and floors, columns, containers, pipe systems, pies and arcs; capsule, tablets, etc. Easy texture mapping to specific faces of a model using the guidance of the UV map reference image. Use "Eyedropper" to collect material info from specific texture surfaces in an object, and "Paint Bucket" to paint and apply the same materials quickly to different objects.

Animated UV Props
Varieties of UV animation patterns such as rotation, shifting, ping-pong, looping, center out, ring-in and kaleidoscope effects. Users may apply their own textures to generate amazing effects.

Professionals can design sophisticated animated UV props by using the iClone - 3D Studio MAX Plug-In. Access and edit texture UV animation templates to present dynamic texturing effects such as water, wave, dance floor, clouds and sky.

Prop Puppet
Use a mouse to freely control the movement, rotation or scale of a prop and record its animation in real-time for authentic movement. With the Prop Puppet panel you will be able to simulate different object movements by using prop animation profiles to further customize movement, rotation or scale; with different X, Y, Z parameters.

iClone provides scene elements with an attachable building block system that can be connected and combined. You can create a mid-rise neighborhood with large, several-story buildings or design and customize these buildings by adding shops to the first floor. The prop templates are designed especially for architecture purposes. It includes required construction materials for interior decoration design.

Natural Environment System
iClone also provides a flexible environment system to assemble your scenes with terrain, sky, water, grass and trees. Actors or vehicles can walk or drive on the terrain. Add any prop as part of the terrain and turn on collision to block actors or vehicles from passing through. Create an oasis in iClone, with beautiful refracting water, reflection, custom speed, clarity, color and underwater fog. A library of skies give you a variety of sky templates. Create custom skies to match any scene. Landscape with tools for placing a variety of plants on any terrain. Use wind speed adjustments allowing grass and trees to sway with the wind for natural environmental effects.

Atmosphere

HDR
The HDR (High Dynamic Range) effects can be used to create intense visual effects within your video. Adjust the parameters like threshold, bloom and exposure to add contrast or tone to your original design. With iClone5, users can choose the glare type such as cheap lens, cross screen or spectral snow to create shining, dazzling flames.

IBL
IBL (Image Based Lighting) is a 3D rendering technique which projects an image onto a sphere that contains an environmental lighting source. This can help simulate the object receiving natural environment lights.

Ambient Occlusion
Ambient occlusion is a newly added shading method in iClone5 which helps add realism to models and scenes. It enhances edge shadows by simulating the attenuation of light due to occlusion. Ambient occlusion simply attempts to approximate the way light radiates in real life, especially off of what are normally considered non-reflective surfaces.

Toon Shader
Cartoon rendering and cell shading allows animators to create a flat-looking 3D image into a cartoonish look, typically exemplified in artistically animated movies. Now in iClone5, you can not only produce realistic styles of 3D animation, but you can also create cartoon-like animated videos.

Fog
Fog is a very useful tool used to add depth to your scene. By changing the fog distance and range, you can create different feelings in your scene with a variety of color tones.

Camera & Lighting

Camera Gizmo & Camera Studio (PIP)
The camera gizmo and the PIP view turn iClone5 into a professional photography & film studio. The camera gizmo allows you to easily control multiple cameras with visible positions, while providing you with a clear range of camera views and depths of field. You may then use the PIP view to observe your subjects between the preview and custom camera mode. 

Lens
Animate the camera lens from a wide to narrow angle (20 ¡V 200 mm), creating special camera effects made famous by Alfred Hitchcock in movies like Vertigo. This is commonly referred to as the "Vertigo" effect.

Link-to & Look-at
Link any camera to an object with auto-follow when the actor or prop moves. The camera view will stay with the linked object and keep it in view throughout its entire animation. Camera Link creates shots automatically without having to keyframe and chase moving objects. Different from the Camera Link function, Camera Look-at keeps the camera in it's set position, but pivots the camera view to always look at the defined target object. This is like a camera on a tripod that always turns towards its object and films its Look-at target.

Lighting System
iClone provides 4 types of lights to enrich your scene with different purposes. Directional Light is a general purpose light for filling the scene from offstage lighting. Point Light and Spotlight are preferred for regional illumination. Ambient Light accompanies all lights to add additional ambience to the scene.

DOF
Easily click to pick a focus target, change DOF and do further range settings (range, distance). Animate DOF to increase the dramatic style of your film with rack focusing and blurring, from one focal length to another.

Shadow
Advanced shadow effect that enables any object to cast or receive shadows within the scene. Create self casting shadows from actors and objects just like in real-life, adding more realism to your environment. The self casting shadow offers blur, intensity and toggle on/off switch.
