QuickBooks Pro 2010: What We Didn't Like
With a monopoly on the market share due to their superior product, Intuit can afford to do what they like with QuickBooks Pro 2010 - including charging more than their competitors.
- Costly - Some features (such as tax and deduction calculations in processing a payroll) come at an additional cost.
- A few annoying habits such as subscription pop-ups.

Intuit do offer online support via monthly and yearly support plans that provide backup services, data recovery, 24/7 contact with the Intuit support team amongst other useful links. There are a lot of security downloads around that claim everything plus the kitchen sink is included. iolo have a good reputation but we always have some reservations but these were dismissed quickly with the superb iolo System Mechanic Pro. As an all around PC performance and protection package iolo System Mechanic Pro has got a lot to offer anyone, especially the home user. While it is true that you can cobble together a lot of what iolo System Mechanic Pro offers from other bits and pieces of software, having everything together with a simple interface and plenty of customization options is an undeniable advantage and well worth the price.
Starting with PC performance aspect of this software, iolo System Mechanic Pro will streamline and tidy your PC clearing out any clutter, defragmenting drives and generally making things quicker and smoother.
It is easy to install and the interface is simple to understand and gives you a clear indication of what you are about to do and how long it'll take. It also does this throughout the process although not at all obtrusively. We were so surprised to find that the progress bars are also pretty accurate. Really.
We also found that there was a good level of customization for the settings. For example iolo System Mechanic Pro will let you create profiles so that you can tailor your experience to your usage. If for example you use your PC for gaming you can create a profile that means you won't be interrupted while playing.
iolo System Mechanic Pro will make sure your personal data is fully erased, your start up routine is optimized and unnecessary junk is deleted off your machine. We found that everything ran faster once it is installed.
When it comes to antivirus protection iolo fares less well. It updates hourly, which can be a drain on some internet connections and its ability to block malware is not as good as other antivirus programs. Most people found that having another specialized antispyware program installed was an advantage. Nevertheless iolo System Mechanic Pro includes a two way firewall and email scanning.
We found that the reports left a little to be desired, in that there was not a lot of detail included. Some people will find that a distinct advantage. In fact perhaps the overall impression of this software is that it is best suited to the home user, with an average sized PC and not a huge amount of knowledge (or interest) in their machine. You can set it and forget it and it will, for the most part, do its job.
iolo System Mechanic Pro: What We Liked
- Has a huge range of features and functions in one place including a firewall, secure file destruction and file recovery for accidental deletions.
- Excellent customization options
- User friendly, clean and intuitive interface
iolo System Mechanic Pro: What We Didn't Like
- Doesn't give detailed reports so while it tells you what it is doing and a little about how it is fixing and optimizing your PC, it doesn't go into any detail.
- Requires customization to best utilize the options and to minimize intrusion and impact.
- Average antivirus protection.
- Scan times can be long.
