With the New Year comes a whole new set of problems in the world of Internet Security. Luckily for us, Kaspersky didn't take a holiday coming into the 2010 season, and have instead produced the comprehensive Internet Security 2010 software. This all-in-one colossus has scored well wherever you look, and we agreed - a multitude of features (almost too many), a ruthless detection and removal rate, and competitive usability make it a top product.

Like in Antivirus 2010, Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 utilizes its extensive user database to watch scans, recognize threat behavior, flag the malicious ones, and protect your computer in real-time as these new threats emerge. They have dubbed it the Urgent Detection System and they are right - as new viruses, Trojans, spywares, rootkits and identity thieves emerge every day, having all bases covered is an urgent matter. Kaspersky have made an award-winning reputation for detection and removal, though, so sleep easy.

Where Antivirus 2010 leaves things, Internet Security picks it up with a vengeance - security tools, bonus features, new technologies, Internet Security 2010 has covered it all. Premier amongst the improvements is the two-way personal firewall - two-way meaning your data doesn't leak out the threats have no way in.

Software.com Labs were particularly impressed with the My Protection tab. This is where the security features live, combat email intrusion, instant messaging threats on your social networking sites, set your Parental controls and sort out your browser settings. The SandBox feature, unique to Kaspersky, allows you to isolate safe programs that need to run so performance isn't compromised.

Usability is smooth and efficient, and scans are customizable. Quite why Kaspersky felt the need to bury the scheduler (the tool by which you set the time and depth of your scan so that, for example, it runs the bulk of scans whilst you sleep) beneath a mess of interface movements we're not sure, but it is there nonetheless.

It is big and its multitude of features take some handling, but once your in control, sit back and enjoy the all-in-one power.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2010: What We Liked

Software.com Labs was thoroughly impressed with Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. Its most impressive features were:

  • Detection and Removal Engine - The behavior-based antiviral engine is in line with the latest developments in the antivirus market. Rather than just rely on the standard update, the system recognizes malicious behavior and acts in real-time, proactively.
  • Scan time is quicker than Antivirus 2010 due to its superior power.
  • Security Options - An array of choices that are superior to many or most on the market.
  • Easy install despite its size.

Kaspersky Antivirus 2010: What We Didn't Like

  • As Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is a multi-featured software that works from a huge knowledge database, its protection is superior but its boot-up and shut-down speeds are not. You can be assured though that your PC would slow down more if it got a virus instead.
  • Kaspersky products cause a bit a riot if installed with other antivirus products already on your PC.
  • Some nagging interface options.
