e-file Stats and the Software to Back it up
19 Jan
Why tax software has made it easier for taxpayers to electronically file their return.
The IRS loves it when taxpayers electronically file their return. Fortunately for them, the number of people e-filing has been increasing for several years.
Here is one of the most interesting efiling statistics: in 2000, approximately 27.5 percent of returns were electronically filed. By 2009, more than 67 percent were e-filed. As you can see, over a nine year span the number of electronically filed returns grew by roughly 40 percent.
For 2009, it is also important to note that more taxpayers decided to e-file on their own as opposed to using a tax professional. In fact, almost 20 percent more prepared their own return when compared to the prior year.
The main reason for the increase in taxpayers e-filing on their own is the availability of tax software. Programs from Intuit and H&R Block, for example, make it simple to electronically file a return while at the same time taking full advantage of all deductions and credits.
As the statistics show, many people have come to the realization that they can save a lot of money, while also working at their own pace, by using tax software. As the popularity of software continues to increase so will the number of e-filed returns.
