Efile Opens January 14th
26 Jan
The first day to efile your return is January 14, 2011.
Are you interested in efiling your 2010 tax return? Are you ready to do so right now? The IRS will begin to accept electronic returns on January 14th, 2011. This is roughly three months before your tax return is actually due.
By efiling your return this early, you are getting ahead of the game in many ways. Above all else, you don’t have to worry about the tax deadline closing in on you. Along with this, the sooner you file the sooner you will receive your refund (if applicable). This is particularly true when you file electronically. You can expect to receive your money in 14 days or less if you opt for direct deposit.
How can I electronically file my return? There are many ways of doing so, with two methods being more popular than the rest. To start, your tax professional can efile your return on your behalf. If you don’t feel like doing the work on your own this is the best option.
On the other hand, you can purchase tax software and use it to electronically file. Not only do you get to efile your return, but this will usually save you money on prep fees while helping you receive the largest possible refund.
It is nice that the IRS opens the efile option to the public on January 14th. This gives you more than three months to complete and electronically file your return.
