How To Get Tax Audit Protection
27 Jan
Worried about getting a tax audit? Only some tax software will offer you protection from tax audits. Knowing which ones could save you a lot of heartache!
Year after year, many people worry about being the victim of an IRS tax audit. While there is nothing fun about an audit, the more protection you have the better off you are going to be. If you are going to use tax software to file your return, make sure you choose an application that gives you audit protection. This one feature could save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
Both H&R Block and TurboTax offer audit protection. Although the chance of being audited is slim, you still want all the protection you can get.
H&R Block gives you “Worry-Free Audit Support.” This feature is free with Basic and higher versions of this at-home software. The main benefit of this feature is that you will have access to an H&R Block tax agent should you need assistance responding to the audit. Along with this, the agent is available to represent you during the audit process.
TurboTax, on the other hand, offers something a bit different. They provide users with an Audit Support Center. This information provides step by step help for responding to a tax audit. When compared to H&R Block, though, they come up a bit short because TurboTax does not provide the help of a live professional. If you are willing to pay an extra $40 (at the time of writing), TurboTax allows you to purchase Audit Defense. With this, if you are audited you can rely on TurboTax to handle all the proceedings for you.
In today’s day and age everybody is worried about a tax audit. If you are going to use software to file your return, be sure that you get the right type of audit protection.
