Since Webroot Spy Sweeper is so comprehensive and loaded with features we were ready for our PCs to really feel the impact after installation. We needn't have worried. It is true that on our older machines Spy Sweeper did decrease our systems' performance, and the lesson here is that both your PC and the software will perform better if your system has more than Webroot's stated minimum requirements. But if you have a notebook or a PC with 2GB or more of RAM, you are unlikely to notice any significant impact on your system performance at all. Which is impressive.

If you, like us, use your PC to watch TV or movies or if you use your PC to game then Webroot Spy Sweeper's Gamer Mode will be invaluable. Gamer Mode allows you to suspend scheduled scans and anything else that might interrupt you while you are playing or watching. Webroot Spy Sweeper always has you covered though because the real-time shield protection is always running.

Webroot Spy Sweeper's scan times can vary quite a bit depending on the system you are using and they are not the fastest around. When we scanned our slower systems the full scan took about 40 minutes. On a newer PC with 2GB of RAM and a 2 GHz plus processor the scans were faster, clocking in at about 20-35 minutes. We think that with dual processors that time could be halved and your whole system could be scanned in 10 to 15 minutes.

The customization options mean that you can always schedule any full scans to run when you do not need to use your PC. Scheduling full scans to run at night means that it doesn't really matter how long it takes. You don't have to run a full scan though, there are options to run both customized quick scans too.

Spy Sweeper keep you informed about the state of your PC by providing you with easy to understand reports after a scan is performed. Should malware be detected, the report gives you a description and a risk assessment you can make an educated decision about the actions you wish to take. You can either quarantine, delete or restore the items Spy Sweeper has detected. Of course Spy Sweeper will keep you appraised of any immediate threats by warning you if programs are downloading or installing themselves on your PC.
