Windows XP Mode.
Windows XP Mode is the combination of two features. The first part is a pre-packaged virtual Windows XP environment. The second is Windows Virtual PC, which is used to run the virtual Windows XP environment. Customers can install their applications into Windows XP Mode using typical installation processes such as downloading from the Web or using the product CD. Once installed, the applications are automatically available on the Windows 7 Start Menu and can be launched just like any Windows 7 program. Optionally, these Windows XP applications can be pinned to the Windows 7 Task Bar and launched using just a single click from the Windows 7 desktop. Windows XP Mode is best suited for older business and productivity applications such as accounting, inventory and similar applications. Windows XP Mode will be available to Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate customers via download.

Editor's Review
Windows 7 Professional is Microsoft's latest operating system release, and one that's generated a lot of praise for the company. A vast improvement over Windows Vista, Windows 7 Professional boasts a range of impressive user interface upgrades, a significantly improved search system, and performance that makes even the sluggish PC feel lightening fast. Designed from the ground up to address concerns and complaints from Windows Vista, Windows 7 Professional is a completely refreshed, optimized operating system.
The most visible change to Windows 7 is the new interface. Built as a streamlined version of Vista's user interface, Windows 7's new UI is significantly more user-friendly and convenient than before. 'Aero Peek' functions allow users to easily juggle multiple windows and applications without confusion, while modified and improved taskbar buttons increase productivity and make multitasking much more simple.
Alongside Aero Peek' Windows 7 has several other productive interface features on offer. 'Aero Shake', a convenient mouse gesture function, allows users to easily minimize excess windows by focusing on their current task and shaking it with the mouse. While slightly cumbersome for notebook users, Aero Shake is brilliant for single-tasking and direct focus, allowing users to easily isolate certain tasks and auto-minimize excess windows.
Microsoft's toolbar changes create a more user-friendly environment in Windows 7, with windows able to be arranged as large icons for quick accessibility. Mac users will feel significantly more comfortable on Windows 7, which offers a range of OS X-style taskbar productivity and task management features. Excess applications can easily be arranged in a pop-up menu, which is attached to the standard Windows taskbar for quick access and productivity.
On the performance side, Windows 7 features a range of improvements from Vista and XP. Application launces are smooth and simple, and the driver problems that affected early Vista users are almost entirely eradicated. Applications install quickly and easily, and despite the lack of Microsoft standard applications, the bundled Microsoft programs such as Media Center are significantly improved over their Windows Vista counterparts.
As an all-round operating system, Windows Vista offers some huge improvements over Vista. A definite recommendation for PC users, Windows 7 Professional is aimed at small businesses, enterprise users, and at-home professionals.
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional: What We Liked
UI is improved from Vista, and once 'tacked-on'; features now feel natural and user-friendly.
Performance is improved for high-end PC users.
Taskbar and window management tools are more intuitive and user-friendly.
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional: What We Didn't Like
Performance is poor on low-end PCs, and some small compatibility issues from Windows Vista remain.
Microsoft Support
Microsoft offer a wide range of online and offline support options. Windows 7 Professional includes a detailed product manual and user guide, while further documentation and support is available on Microsoft's website. Phone support is available for registration and licensing issues.
