WinRAR-Things We Like
A free trial shareware WinRAR download is available, which lasts for 40 days
It supports all popular compression formats including RAR, ZIP, CAB, ARJ, LZH, ACE, TAR and GZip to name a few. This includes compatibility with Windows 7 zip facility.
There is automatic selection of the most effective compression method for the file. This is particularly useful for new users to the software and when dealing with large multimedia files.
Its simple methodology of continually creating smaller archives gives it a speed edge over a lot of its rivals. Again this is notable for multimedia formats, the bread and butter of the web, social networking and sharing
WinRAR-Things We Didn't Like
It is so simple and effective, that it is a shame that it is shareware. Most contributors to any WinRAR review seem to agree that forty days never seems enough.
For some users, the interface and feel of this program is a little tired and clunky. But, as this is low priced shareware, this may not be surprising.
There have been reports of Trojan virus alerts when started. But, this seems to be from downloads on non-reputable sites and there is no evidence to support any other conclusion.
As this is shareware, there is the question as to the speed of updates and improvements. Will its simplicity eventually be its downfall?

useful for my needs but takes a bit of getting used to the lingo. a bit techie

only for winrar (.rar) format files which isn't the current #1
