First released in 2014 by GitHub, the Atom code editor was one of the first editors to ship with a built-in Git integration. Atom added features like the Teletype collaboration tool and embedded a new GitHub pane to enable developers to code better with their teams. Atom is considered a “hackable” code editor that allows developers to modify the startup script and customize the editor’s appearance and performance. Atom supports nearly every major programming language, including JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS, HTML, Python, C++, Java, and more.
